Redbreast released the first edition of their 27 year-old expression in 2019, but its roots date back to mid-19th century.

The Redbreast saga began over a century ago, in 1857, with the establishment of W&A Gilbey Co. – a wine and distilled spirits company in London. 

By the turn of the century, Gilbey's had expanded to Dublin and Belfast and held one of the most extensive stocks of maturing whiskey in its inventory. 

They first had the idea of producing a "pure pot still" whiskey, a novel concept at the time. The company started selling a 12 year old whisky under the Redbreast brand in 1912.
