Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 1990 Ruchottes Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes from Rousseau continues to offer so much pleasure. There is that warmth of the growing season that billows from the glass: sloes and smudged red berry fruit, a touch of warm gravel and yes, even that sweet, heady strawberry shortcake scent that I remarked upon a couple of years ago. The palate is like a buxom aunt giving you a huge big hug: rounded, soft, laden with fruit, but counterbalanced with superb delineation. The acidity is so perfectly judged, offsetting the weight and intensity on the finish. Yes, a gorgeous Ruchottes-Chambertin. If you don't like this, you don't like Burgundy. (NM)
Wine Spectator
A well-toned monster, with a huge amount of ripe raspberry, cherry and earth aromas and flavors and tons of refined tannins. Goes on and on and on. A wine to welcome in the new century.
