Vinous
Minerals, smoke, earthiness, tar and leather are just some of the nuances that gradually emerge from the 1996 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d'Morissio. In 1996 Cà d'Morissio is especially masculine and virile in its expression, yet the wine also achieves a remarkable level of definition and clarity. The style here is a touch more elegant than the 1996 Barolo Monprivato. The 1996 Cà d'Morissio is sublime, and has to be considered a modern-day masterpiece from Mascarello. This is a stunning bottle!
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 1996 Barolo Riserva Ca’ d’Morissio, with more classic aromas and flavors, is the perfect foil to the 1997. Boasting a dark ruby hue, it shows a captivating, well-delineated nose that suggests roses, violets and minerals, along with densely packed layers of primary black cherry fruit on a big, structured frame of notable length, with much purity and imposing tannins. Though not especially expressive today, my sense is that this wine is holding back much of its potential and it will be a fascinating effort to follow, although readers will have to be especially patient with this wine. Sadly, within just a few vintages it has become priced in the stratosphere. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2031.

(Barolo “Cà d’Morrisio” Riserva- Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio) As was the case with the 2001, this was the first opportunity that I had found to taste the 1996 Cà d’Morrisio and the wine is brilliant. The deep, pure and very flamboyant nose jumps from the glass in a blend of red and black cherries, orange peel, game, stony soil tones, a gentle touch of road tar, camphor and herb tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and almost sappy at the core, with great, sturdy and seamless structural elements, stellar focus and brilliant length and grip on the youthful, but expansive finish. This will be one of the legendary wines of the 1996 vintage. (Drink between 2022-2075).
