This is a stunning Clos de Vougeot, a distinct level up from the great 2000. The nose blossoms in the glass with raspberry leaf, wild strawberry and cranberry, crushed stone and breathtaking definition. There is still that sense of warmth that envelopes the aromatic profile. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, supple tannin, svelte and languid with tart red cherries and redcurrant, effortlessly poised towards the long, cerebral finish. Stunning. (NM)

I hadn't tasted this since 2008 and it has largely arrived at its peak with some bricking evident at the rim along with mostly secondary aromas that are trimmed in earth, dried flower and humus nuances. The sleek, delicious and vibrant middle weight plus flavors possess excellent delineation while delivering excellent length on the lingering if ever-so-slightly clipped finale. Still, I very much like the mid-palate mouth feel and the overall sense of depth. Note that while this is now fully mature it should be capable of holding at this level for another decade, perhaps even longer.

Medium colour. If anything, this is browner at the rim than the 2000. Some depth on the nose. More volume than the 2000. But no great finesse. Spicy though and this gives it interest. Some richness, some fat, some body. Now fully ready. Good energy at the end. Very good indeed. (CC)
