Moderately saturated medium red. Fairly deep aromas of cherry, raspberry, minerals and baking spices. The sweetest of the finished 2002s I tasted chez Rouget, and also the most aromatic in the mouth. Offers sappy red fruits and spicy oak complicated by a smoked meat nuance. Stylish, persistent wine.

The nose is classy, wonderfully elegant and utterly pure, revealing concentrated aromas of red and black pinot fruit aromas plus layers upon layers of spices, including sandalwood, anise, soy, hoisin and a strong note of minerality. The linear but no longer severe flavors are moderately concentrated as well with finer tannins than usual and the intensity is impressive. This is not a powerful wine but it is certainly an elegant Cros that possesses impeccable balance that should permit it to age for 2 decades, perhaps longer. In sum, this is really a wonderful Cros where I have enjoyed consistent results. The last bottle I had in 2009 was relatively accessible and certainly enjoyable though for my taste, this most recent bottle needs another 3 to 5 years before peaking.
