Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2003 The Ironstone Pressings GSM is a gorgeous blend of 70 Grenache, 25 Shiraz, and 5 Mourvedre. It explodes from the glass with notes of Provencal herbs, black cherries, cassis, pepper, licorice, and incense. A wine of great intensity, richness, body, and purity with terrific balance as well as a layered mouthfeel, this superb Australian red should be consumed over the next 10-12 years." (10/05) The trilogy of Rhone greats, here in a package that is both stylish in an international sense and savory in an earthy, rustic extremely soul-satisfying way. Tar, flowers, forest floor, blueberries, and crème de cassis are evident on the nose and palate. And once the wine opens up, the finish appears to never end. This is one young pup, however, so be smart and burry it away amongst your vinous treasures. For after five or ten years in the bottle, the bouquet will absolutely astound you. And yes, this is Aussie wine.
