Wine Spectator
Rich and dense, exhibiting cherry, licorice, tar and underbrush aromas and flavors. Intense and sinewy, showing excellent texture, length and personality. Just needs time for the tannins to soften. The most backward of the three La Spinetta crus right now. (BS)
Vinous
The 2010 Barbaresco Starderi has some of the early appeal of the Gallina, until a massive wall of tannin hits the palate, that is. The length, power and structure are pure Starderi. Readers will have to be patient, but there is a lot to look forward to. Bright floral and red-toned fruit notes emerge gradually over time, but this is without question a wine for the cellar. James Suckling
This is a red with fascinating aromas of strawberry skin, dried flowers and truffles. Full body with silky tannins and wonderful balance and finesse. It caresses every inch of your palate.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Barbaresco Vigneto Starderi is born in a vineyard that sits at 330 meters above sea level. Giorgio tells me that the challenge here is crafting a wine with both elegance and power. Thanks to ideal growing conditions in 2010, he has succeeded at his task. Firm structure is supported by fleshy fruit tones and elegantly integrated spice. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.
