The 2011 Corton Grand Cru from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti put in a similar showing as it did just after bottling earlier last year. It has less of the mushroom element than I recollect, adorned with pastille-like purity of red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, a slight ferrous note developing with time in the glass. The palate has developed a tad more roundness in the mouth in recent months, the tannins softened a little and it is consequently less masculine and more approachable. That said, as much as I enjoyed polishing off my glass, I would advise allowing this several years in bottle so that it can lose its puppy fat. (NM)

Savory herbs, mint, bright red berries, spices, iron, crushed rocks and autumn leaves are some of the notes that grace the palate in the 2011 Corton. The 2011 is beautifully centered, with underlying veins of acidity and minerality that run through its core. At the same time, the precocious vintage has yielded a Corton that is unusually supple and tender in its youth. This is a model of pure class. The gentle, enveloping finish gives the 2011 much of its early appeal.

Good bright, full red. Pretty aromas of dark cherry and black raspberry lifted by a floral topnote. Round, sappy and succulent, showing a bit of youthful medicinal character to its dark fruit, mocha and licorice flavors. Finishes with good breadth, lightly dusty tannins and classic dryness. The team vinified with 60 to 70 whole clusters in 2011.

Quite deeply colored. This is notably ripe with a completely different aromatic profile that is distinctly floral and sauvage along with plenty of earth nuances to the dark berry fruit liqueur suffused nose. There is excellent richness to the velvety and well-detailed big-bodied flavors that possess fine power and impressive length. This is not an especially massive wine by the standards of the appellation but it's well-balanced and should age well.
