Bright, full medium red. Pungent stony minerality dominates the nose. Juicy and imploded on the palate, with terrific chewy depth and a weightless quality to its intense, lightly saline flavors of dark berries, minerals, spices and flowers. Finishes with palate-staining power and subtle rising length. This vibrant, rather powerful wine is almost painful today, as there's nothing sweet or easy about it. Demands at least six to eight years of cellaring.

*** Outstanding *** (from a .70 ha parcel of 55+ year old vines) A highly perfumed nose of pure essence of red pinot fruit along with a panoply of spice elements leads to solidly powerful and well-detailed flavors that are built on a base of almost pungent minerality. There is excellent length and plenty of supporting material and it seems reasonably clear that this is the best in show chez Rouget in 2011.
