Interestingly this is the spiciest wine in the range outside of the La Romanée that combines with a really lovely panoply of red and blue fruit and floral scents. There is excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the fleshy and generous medium-bodied flavors that possess controlled power on the beautifully complex, balanced and long finish that is a bit less austere than that of the Reignots. This is also excellent and should drink well both young and fully mature.

The 2012 Echézeaux is incredibly polished, with remarkable nuance, delicacy and finesse in a vintage in which so many wines are built on power. Effortless and gracious to the core, Liger-Belair's 2012 captures the purest essence of what makes wines from this site so seductive. The highly expressive, resonant finish makes the 2012 incredibly appealing today, but readers should be patient here, if at all possible.

The 2012 Echézeaux from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is another stunning wine in the making, offering up a pure, sappy and magically complex nose of black raspberries, black cherries, venison, dark plums, a gorgeous base of soil, dark chocolate, a bit of bonfire and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very sappy at the core, with stunning focus and intensity, very suave tannins, bright acids and impeccable balance and precision on the very, very long, nascently complex finish. I hate to keep using the comparison to Henri Jayer, but this is really what his Echézeaux used to taste like when it was a young wine!
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Tasted blind at the annual 'Burgfest' tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Echézeaux Grand Cru from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has a slightly disjointed nose at first, but it melds together nicely in the glass, revealing pure blackberry and raspberry fruit, heather and fresh mint notes with aeration. There is focus and intensity here that builds before you. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, very well-judged acidity, cohesive and voluminous with a very precise finish that indicates some very clever, judicious winemaking. This is an Echézeaux from the top drawer, confirming previous bottles that have excelled.
