Vinous
The 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches (white), picked between September 20 and 28, was whole cluster pressed and aged for 13 months in oak. Veronique said that there were three barrels of vin de presse, but only one was used as the other two were too low in acidity. It already has a sensual bouquet with hints of citrus lemon and white chocolate that is very well-defined. The quality really comes through on the palate that is underpinned by superb minerality and poise. There is something reminiscent of the Meursault Perrieres here – an outstanding Clos des Mouches but, alas, there are only about 18 barrels this year, about one-fifth of the quantity produced in 2009.
