Unlike last year, there are three barrels of the 2014 Musigny Grand Cru this year instead of two, not that it is going to make it any easier to find and somehow, I'm not expecting a massive reduction in price. It has a very complex bouquet with dark red fruit, limestone, a hint of hickory and wild hedgerow, quite mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, silkier than the Clos de Vougeot, harmonious with a killer thread of spice that bursts out towards the finish. Very complex and sophisticated, this Musigny deserves several years in bottle before even thinking about it. Drink Date 2020 - 2040

This is more aromatically restrained and it requires some aggressive swirling to coax the admirably spicy red cherry, orange pekoe tea, violet, cinnamon and sandalwood scents to reluctantly reveal themselves. Yet again the imposingly scaled and seriously concentrated flavors possess a positively gorgeous mouth feel while displaying superb delineation and minerality on the massively long finish that really fans out as it literally lasts for several minutes. This stunningly good effort is a potential masterpiece of class and grace; indeed it is a genuine 'wow' wine. Drink: 2034+
