Wine Spectator
Very complete and complex, from the spicy, cedary oak to the broad, expansive midpalate, offering layers of nuanced berry, plum, licorice and road tar flavors, ending with firm, grippy tannins and excellent length.
Vinous
The 2014 The Maiden is a gorgeous, finely-knit wine long on class and pedigree. All of the signatures of the vintage come through in the wine's precise, nuanced personality. Freshly cut flowers, bright red stone fruit and mint give the wine its lifted, gracious personality. Drink this sublime, medium-bodied wine over the next 10-15 years.
James Suckling
Aromas of blackcurrants and minerals with hints of wet concrete and stones. Full body, refined yet dense tannins and a beautiful length and finesse on the finish. A polished and ethereal wine. Best Maiden I have ever tasted.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 The Maiden opens with a beautiful exotic spice and potpourri nose over a core of red and black currants, cedar chest, cloves and menthol plus a waft of fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, it has a lovely velvety texture and great freshness lifting the spicy flavors, finishing with lingering red and black fruit layers.
Jeb Dunnuck
Leading off the 2014s and functioning as the second wine of the estate, the 2014 Maiden comes from a cellar selection that includes all parts of the property and is a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Cassis, black raspberries, toasted oak, and spice all emerge from this opulent, forward, seductive 2014 that has a frontend loaded style that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 15+ years.
