The 2014 Bâtard-Montrachet had just been assembled at the start of the week prior to my tasting it on a Friday afternoon and was destined to be bottled in March of 2016. Consequently, this was still a little grumpy from the recent racking, but settled in nicely in the glass to show excellent potential. The bouquet is deep and pure, offering up scents of apple, pear, fresh almond, chalky soil tones, crème patissière, gentle floral tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and shows of an absolutely great core, with bright, racy acids, impeccable balance and superb length and grip on the vibrant finish. The focus is not totally precise right after the racking, but I am sure that this wine will snap back into place with a bit of time and is going to be a reference point Bâtard in 2014 and should settle in at the higher end of my range of scores. Great juice in the making. (Drink between 2020-2050) 94-95
