Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2014 Barolo Margheria is a very distinctive expression of Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba. The bouquet offers a strong balsamic signature with eucalyptus oil and rosemary essence. Those cooling and soothing aromas are followed by bold blackberry, plum and exotic spice. Despite the cooler vintage, you do feel the power and the textural richness that is often associated with this vineyard site. The wine ages in Slavonian oak cask for 30 months.
Vinous
Rose petal, dried cherry, kirsch, mint, sage and licorice give the 2014 Barolo Margheria much of its beguiling, nuanced personality. Deceptive in its midweight structure, it packs a serious punch. The sinewy, potent Serralunga tannins need time to soften a bit, but I don't think that will be an issue given how impeccably balanced the 2014 is in the early going. A bit of air brings out the wine's explosive persistence and drive. A closing flourish of sage, tobacco and kirsch rounds things out in style. The only open question is how much time the 2014 needs, because it is clearly a gorgeous wine in the making.
Wine Enthusiast
A classic, vibrant expression of Nebbiolo, this fragrant red opens with compelling aromas of wild berry, crushed rose, iris, menthol and aromatic herb. Elegant and structured, the linear, savory palate delivers juicy Marasca cherry, wild raspberry, licorice and mint alongside bright acidity and firm tannins. Drink 2023–2029.
