Critics Scores
Vinous
Glistening ruby. Highly expressive black raspberry, cassis, incense and spicecake aromas show outstanding clarity and pick up a smoky mineral accent with air. Alluringly sweet and concentrated, offering palate-staining red and dark fruit preserve, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that are given spine by a core of juicy acidity. Deftly blends richness and finesse and finishes incredibly long and sappy, with steadily building tannins adding shape and closing grip.
James Suckling
Some deeper, bolder and slightly tarry aromas to the nose, which sits on a fresh, reductive edge. The palate rolls out an array of ripe, dark, spicy fruit, delivered amid powerful, yet crisply defined tannins. Superb purity here. From organically grown grapes.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Barruol's 2016 Gigondas Hominis Fides is tremendously concentrated and intense, boasting nearly overwhelming waves of black cherry fruit. Full-bodied, creamy and rich, it's approachable now for it's lush, velvety fruit, but if you want more nuance and spice, try to hold it for 5-10 years. It should drink well through at least 2030.

Leading off the special cuvees and from the sandiest parcel of the estate, the 2016 Gigondas Hominis Fides (100 Grenache) has perfection written all over it! Just as fine, elegant and seamless as it gets, yet also with blockbuster depth and richness, it boasts incredible notes of black raspberries, loamy/sandy soils nuances, game, and camphor. Don’t miss it! Louis Barruol’s Chateau de Saint Cosme is unquestionably one of the reference point estates in Gigondas, as well as the entire southern Rhône Valley. The estate lies just to the east of the village and covers 25 hectares, with 15 of those in Gigondas. He makes a classic Gigondas as well as four single vine releases from single vineyards located around the estate. The wines are not destemmed and aged mostly in older barrels, with a small portion in new barrels.
Decanter
Taken from selected plots, with no destemming and maturation in barriques, 30 new. The subtle nose is largely closed at the moment, but the palate is very concentrated, verging on over-extracted, with high acidity and abundant but very fine sinewy tannins. It has intense dark berry fruit and a fresh, mineral seam that helps retain a sense of freshness and clarity, and delivers incredible length. Always a tour de force, this year is no different. It's an extremely powerful, polished and impressive wine thanks to excellence both in the cellar and in the vineyard. A stylish wine with great élan, and not the slightest hint of rusticity.Drinking Window 2021 - 2035.
