Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Returning after parading last year as a Bourgogne Blanc until the vines reached satisfactory maturity, the 2016 Musigny Blanc Grand Cru is comprised of three barrels, none of them new. It has an intriguing bouquet with white flowers, honeysuckle, Cornice pear and orange blossom aromas, plus jasmine with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a resinous texture and you know, if I was served this blind, frankly I would never guess it to be a Chardonnay. It is a sui generis, almost Marsanne-like in flavor profile and texture with touches of spice, ginger and lemongrass toward the finish. This is an absolutely fascinating wine. Welcome back. Comte de Vogüé was my last of over 100 visits in Burgundy. It almost never happened. Firstly a miscommunication with the time meant that the first visit had to be cancelled. Returning the following day I found that the electricity for the entire village of Chambolle-Musigny had been cut off. Winemaker François Millet and I were preparing to taste at the top of the cuverie stairs when someone must have chucked some money into the meter. Lo and behold the lights came back on. Hoorah!
