Burghound
The equally pretty nose is compositionally similar to that of the Combottes but with just a bit more earth and underbrush characters. By contrast there is more volume, power and slightly better concentration as well as on the dusty, serious and mouth coating finish where the supporting tannins are slightly firmer. (91-94)
Vinous
Bright, full red. Alluring scents of black raspberry, red cherry and rose petal; lovely classic Charmes but a bit redder than usual for this cuvée at this address. Sappy and energetic in the mouth, combining compelling sweetness of fruit with good grip. The very long, rising finish features a firm tannic structure. This grand cru will be sexy early on and should age well. (ST) (92-94)
Robert parker's Wine Advocate
The 2016 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a detailed, stony, quite Mazoyères-like bouquet in terms of structure, adorned with a subtle marine influence coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant red berry fruit, raspberry and crushed strawberry, quite linear with veins of orange sorbet that enlivens and lends a measured exotic twist to the finish. Very fine, and I suspect it will age with style. (NM) (91-93)
Decanter
Like the Echezeaux, the Charmes-Chambertin presented quite a red-fruity bouquet, bursting from the glass with aromas of red berries, plums, orange rind, espresso and a framing of cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is sapid, cool and detailed, with an expansive, giving attack. This is followed by a taut, fine-grained chassis of tannin that asserts itself, clamping down on the nicely intense finish. This will likely integrate more completely by the end of its élevage. Drinking Window 2024 - 2040. (WK)
