Don't even bother trying to find 2016 Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron Romanée-Saint-Vivant in bulk. It's impossible. The husband-and-wife duo of Sophie Meunier-Confuron and Alain Meunier only releases small allocations of this pinot noir to its most trusted customers. But for those fortunate enough to have held a bottle, they know the results are well-worth pursuing. Alain and Sophie carefully crafted 2016 Romanée-Saint-Vivant for an expansive mouthfeel, round fruit, and silky tannins. Thanks to low-yielding vines, this pinot noir also delivers concentrated layers of black cherries, blackberries, graphite, earth, and salinity. Give it a few years in the cellar, and 2016 Romanée-Saint-Vivant will reveal the entirety of its grand cru potential.
Critics Scores
Vinous
Good medium red-ruby. Slightly wild scents of black cherry and minerals. Dense, suave and thick with black raspberry, black cherry, mineral, earth and spice flavors. This wine has the almost chocolatey richness of a 2015 but with noteworthy inner-mouth perfume and saline energy. Substantial spreading tannins are keeping the wine's finishing flavors under wraps today but this grand cru offers considerable potential. 92-94 Points
