John Gilman
The low yields in the village have not adversely affected the Amoureuses chez Drouhin in 2016. The bouquet is lovely and fairly reserved at the present time, offering up scents of plums, black cherries, raw cocoa, gamebird, a complex base of soil tones, fresh herbs and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and shows off lovely purity in the core, with fine focus and grip, suave, seamless tannins and a very long, complex and elegant finish. This is already velvety on the attack and should start to drink with great style by its tenth birthday. (Drink between 2026-2075)
Vinous
Moderately saturated medium red. Alluring aromas of raspberry, minerals and flowers. Concentrated, savory wine with a very fine-grained texture and lovely balance to its red berry and spice flavors. Youthfully reticent but already much more harmonious than the Grands-Echézeaux. This very silky, delicate Amoureuses finishes firm and long, with its well-integrated tannins nicely supported by fruits and spices and a note of faded rose providing lift.
Burghound
An exceptionally fresh and bright nose mixes ultra-pure red berry fruit aromas with those of similar spice and floral notes. The mouth feel is slightly finer than that of the Petits Monts as the mid-palate is suave and supple yet the gorgeously textured backend tightens up considerably and displays superb intensity on the mouth coating and stony finish. This classy and lacy effort should also be very special.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses has a beautiful bouquet with tightly wound violet-tinged black fruit, becoming a little more earthy and introverted with aeration. The palate is sensual and rounded on the entry with veins of blueberry and cassis that soon give way to quite a spicy and powerful finish. While not in the same class as the previous two vintages, this is still a serious, quite cerebral yet luxuriant Amoureuses that is beautifully crafted. (93-95)
