Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds is also showing very well, bursting with expressive aromas of peonies, orange rind and wild berries, as well as hints of raw cocoa and sweet soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with an ample core of succulent fruit underpinned by melting tannins and lively acids. While it's already deceptively charming, this also has the necessary depth for sustained and positive development in the cellar. From 80-year-old vines, this is one of de Montille's emblematic wines—and with good reason.
Burghound
A fresh, pure and ultra-floral nose mixes notes of red and black cherry, anise, sandalwood and a hint of herbal tea. Firm, serious and with mineral flavors, it has an excellent energy, a young austere finish and an impressive length. It is clearly very firm but a little less compact than it usually is, it will take a lot of patience.

Decanter
Often the most complete of the de Montille Volnay premiers crus, this comes from two parcels of 80-year-old vines, both below the village on either side of the road. Floral, nuanced and malty, it isn't excessively marked by its 100 whole bunches, partly because the wine has such depth, freshness and acidity.
