Burghound
Layered aromas consist primarily of forest floor, dark cherry and a whisper of violet. The more serious, mineral-suffused and concentrated flavors deliver solid persistence and complexity on mildly austere finale. While this should drink well after 4 to 5 years, it should also reward a decade of cellaring.
Vinous
The 2017 Savigny-les-Beaune Aux Guettes 1er Cru has a strict, backward bouquet, the crushed stone more expressive than the tightly wound black fruit that loiters in the background. The palate is well balanced, and here, the fruit is more forward: raspberry, wild strawberry and a dash of white pepper. This feels cohesive, natural and balanced, almost lilting, toward the precise, satisfying finish.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2017 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes is the high point of Bize's Savigny collection this year, wafting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of rose petals, peonies, red cherries, plums and spicy soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with a deep core of crunchy fruit, chalky but fine-grained tannins and a long, fragrant finish. This will be well worth seeking out.
