There’s beautiful richness and symphonic completeness from the outset, a hallmark of this cru and a vineyard that has risen to the challenge in 2018. Oyster shell, citrus and stone fruit, together with flint, chalk and hints of pastry, all lead to a palate that has a super smooth, sleek and round feel. A late surge of flavor, then acidity, then minerals. It is all here! A blend of four different plots on the slope.

Once again, the nose is markedly cool and reserved with its prominently floral and citrus-suffused aromas of wet stone, shellfish and pungent iodine wisps. The sleek, sophisticated and focused larger-scaled flavors brim with minerality and a reasonable amount of dry extract while the driving, chiseled and linear finish is strikingly long. Interestingly, this doesn't possess the same density as either the Blanchot or the Valmur but it is already more complex and so compact that it's clear this is going to require extended cellaring to arrive at its apogee.

The best wine in the Raveneau line up in 2018, as it often is, comes from their four parcels of the Grand Cru, all of which are picked together and located in the middle of the slope. Leesy, waxy and effortlessly complex, this has notes of green herbs and white flowers, lots of understated power, incredible minerality and palate length, and a savory, umami undertone.

The 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Clos is also showing very well, exhibiting aromas of lemon oil, confit citrus fruit, yellow apples, white flowers and almond paste. On the palate, it's full-bodied, powerful and broad shouldered, with a deep, layered core, considerable concentration and an intensely saline finish. This is an expansive, large-scaled Les Clos that should prove comparatively precocious by the standards of this cuvée.
