Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of peonies, wild berries, cherries and loamy soil, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roy is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, endowed with real texture and mid-palate amplitude. Muscular and concentrated, it's beautifully complete, with lively acids and refined if abundant tannins. From barrel, I suggested that readers might think of this particular rendition of Dugat-Py's emblematic communal Gevrey as a baby Charmes-Chambertin, and that contention holds up in bottle.
Decanter
Loïc Dugat-Py combines grapes from three separate lieux-dits - Les Epointures, Combes du Dessus and Les Marchais - to produce this stunning, old-vine village Gevrey-Chambertin. Floral, dense and intensely coloured, it has 50 each of whole bunches and new wood, violet and aniseed aromas, succulent tannins and intense blueberry and black cherry fruit. Not cheap, but this is as good as many Premiers Crus.
Burghound
An equally fresh nose offers up notes ripe cassis, black raspberry, earth and plenty of sauvage nuances. The exceptionally rich and caressing medium-bodied flavors terminate in a dusty, youthfully austere and palate coating finish that makes it clear that this is built-to-age.
