Like the straight Vosne, there is enough reduction present to overshadow the fruit but not the pretty spice elements. The round, caressing and more refined middle weight flavors retain a lovely sense of vibrancy that carries over to the well-detailed, delicious and lingering finish that is firm enough to suggest that a decade or more will be necessary to see this at its best.

Vinous
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru uses 20 stems, as Maxime Chuerlin wanted to counter the opulence of this vineyard. It has a ripe bouquet, but the stem addition does lend it focus and more freshness than I think it would otherwise have had. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and superb acidity. A sense of symmetry runs through this Chaumes from start to precise finish.
