This is ever-so-mildly phenolic in character (think olive or nut oil nuances) with additional notes of petrol, resin, white fruit compote and a dollop of toasty oak. The exceptionally rich, concentrated and powerful flavors also coat the mouth with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the solidly powerful and focused finish that delivers excellent length. There is a touch of backend warmth but overall, this is really quite good.

This isn’t strictly speaking a domaine wine from Joseph Drouhin, but the contract with the Marquis de Laguiche is so long that it might as well be. Showing impressive concentration, yeasty, textured weight, delightful 25 new wood and notes of beeswax and lanolin, it finishes with freshness, minerality, commendable poise and some skin-tannin grip.
