Burghound
*Burghound Don't Miss!!* A more restrained and slightly cooler nose reluctantly offers up its combination of essence of apple, pear, wet stone, citrus rind and an interesting hint of jasmine tea. The super-sleek and wonderfully intense flavors also possess imposing size, weight and power while exhibiting huge length on the compact, serious and chiseled finish. This too is clearly built-to-age and is a wine that is going to need at least a decade to reveal its potential and probably 12 to 15 to fully peak.

Vinous
The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru comes from 0.11 hectares of 80-year-old vines that yield two barrels (one new barrel and the other tailored to the size of the crop). It has a very intense bouquet of citrus fruit, yellow flowers, orange blossom, crushed limestone and white peach – a nose that takes no prisoners. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, very mineral driven, and very intense and rich, with a strong saline finish. It is actually a relatively broody Montrachet compared to the 2017 and as such it will require longer aging in bottle, presuming you can find a bottle. A slow-burning epic. (NM)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru is very impressive, soaring from the glass with aromas of peach, fresh pear, citrus zest, toasted brioche, honeycomb and almond paste. On the palate, it's full-bodied, satiny and muscular, with a ripe and layered core of fruit, lively acids and a long, resonant finish. This is a powerful Montrachet that evokes the 2015 rendition. Damien Colin continues his progression towards longer élevage in larger vessels: In 2017, he purchased more 300- and 350-liter barrels, a trend that continued in 2018, and after a year in wood, his wines now see a protracted sojourn in tank on the lees. He's adding less sulfur dioxide at harvest, finding that fermentations last longer. And longer élevage with attendant natural clarification meant that he was able to bottle his 2017s entirely without fining or filtration. Those 2017s, revisited from bottle, confirmed their fine showing last year; and 2018, rounder and more immediate in style, looks to be another success for Domaine Marc Colin, as my notes testify. (WK)
