Vinous
The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru has a regal, complex and quite compelling bouquet of layers of black fruit laced with black truffle, woodland and light leafy aromas. There is superb intensity here. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine-grained tannins. Very precise and elegant, with tangible mineralité and great tension on the finish. This is a deftly produced, very impressive Chambertin that will give three, maybe four decades of drinking pleasure. (NM) (95-97)
Burghound
In contrast to the exuberance of many of the wines, here the nose is all but mute and requires aggressive swirling to coax the timid aromas of softly spicy and decidedly cool aromas of red and black currant, humus-tinged earth and plenty of floral nuances. The racy, tight and almost painfully intense big-bodied and muscular flavors also exhibit an abundance of minerality that adds lift to the compact, linear and subtly persistent finish. This is presently a compact block and a wine that is likely to require at least a decade to become approachable and reward 20+ years. (93-95)
